Self-Government Through Private Associations - Biblical "Social Security"

Adapted from RJ Rushdoony's Lectures on American History.

By Daniel Sheridan

In early America, society governed itself for itself. There was a great absence of government. The real government of the US was “private association.” What were these private associations? They were tithe agencies which were created by people to deal with a variety of problems. They were formed by the people for any problem that appealed to them. There were literally thousands of them. There was a religious society for everything: To distribute Bibles, take care of orphans, convert sailors, convert prostitutes, to teach, etc… There was something to take care of everything under the sun.

In 1795 Salem Massachusetts had 2,500 people. In 1845 the population rose to 45,000. It went from a small puritan village to a large city, yet it never changed. How did they keep it the same with all the new people? They were organizing special Schools to teach them to prepare them for American life. They taught English to the immigrants, taught women practical things for homes, churches, evangelization etc… What Christians did was to meet every need possible. There were in each area men and women who were dedicated to particular causes. This took time and money.

This established a voluntary principle regarding solving problems. The Red Cross started in Switzerland, but it really took off in the US. When Grover Cleveland was President, there was a great disaster in a part of this country that caused great destruction. Congress wanted to pass a law to help using Federal funds. But Cleveland said no! And commented that it would be a sad day if the people did not take care of themselves.

Repent America Denounces Proposed Federal Hate Crimes Bill

Contact: Michael Marcavage, Director, Repent America, 1-800-3-REPENT, Ext. 5

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- Repent America (RA) has joined in the fight against the newly proposed hate crimes bill now before the U.S. House of Representatives, and is calling Christians to pray for this emergency situation and to voice opposition to their elected officials.

Earlier this month, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Texas) introduced H.R. 254, which calls for the establishment of a new federal offense for so-called hate crimes. The bill is similar to hate crimes measures passed by the House in 2005 and the Senate in 2004, which would commission a separate federal criminal prosecution for state offenses tried under its provisions. If convicted, an offender could face life in prison.

Christian Riffraff
A House Divided

By Al Cronkrite

“As of 1988, there were ninety-one million adult Americans, eighteen years of age and older, who identified themselves as ‘born-again Christians,’ up from forty million in l968, twenty years earlier. Unless those ninety-one million begin to command society for Jesus Christ, God will account them to be riffraff in His sight.” Rousas Rushdoony

Weakness is often a result of Internal division. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways and a house divided against itself cannot stand.A nation divided can be conquered when that same nation of one mind would stand.
Under Saddam Hussein the factions in Iraq were held together by force but, now that he has been murdered, Iraq is seriously divided. Even if victory is elusive, the division in Iraq will make it easier to control. The United States itself has been summarily sliced and diced. It is divided over religion and secularism; it is divided by multiculturalism; it is divided by religious theology; it is divided by political parties; government clashes with citizens creates another division; there is a division between the wealthy and not so wealthy, between corporations and the good of the nation; between hedonism and morality; it is divided over support for Israel and over the War in Iraq; it is divided over the authenticity of 9/11 debacle; and last but not conclusive it is divided over the conspiracy question. Divisions mitigate the fall of our nation into tyranny.
In a conversation with the Editorial Page Editor of our local newspaper, the Council on Foreign Relations was mentioned. The Editor had never heard of the organization.

ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL

By Coach Dave Daubenmire

NewsWithViews.com

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; Romans 1:16

I was in prayer the other day. Actually, that’s not true. I wasn’t praying, I was complaining, dumping all of my frustrations at the feet of my Lord. We do that a lot, you know, complain. We call it prayer, but it is really nothing more than a gripe session with Jesus.

I am so frustrated by what I see passing as Christianity today. Now before you get all self-righteous on me and accuse me of being self-righteous, let me make it clear that I am not nearly the Christian I wish I were. I come up short in so many ways. But like a quarterback who just played a lousy game, no one has to tell me my shortcomings. Believe me, I know what they are.

“Where is the power, Lord?” I complained in my prayer. “I am so sick of status quo, mundane, form-of-godliness-Christianity. Where is the power? Why does your Church seem to be so ineffective...so afraid to stand and display your power?”

Cost of Consensus

By Gene Malone

Post

COSTS OF CONSENSUS: The non-reading President George W. Bush says he
only gets the information that other "expert" provide him in his decisionmaking. Many on the Liberty Loop and other E-ways know about the Delphi-Consensus flawed-method of decisionmaking now making the
rounds in management circles in government, education, corporate offices and more for half-a century. Decisionmaking by group/consensus has serious flaws when used to solve serious problems. Let me begin.

When pre-determined outcomes/policies are joined with one-think members for total agreement, problems show up early and later.

School boards, like the continuing same-think Kenosha Unified School Board, and yours are facilitated by the appointed CEOs and others for better/less controversial decisionmaking to ALL AGREE before the pre-determined "outcome" is presented to the public. It gives the appearance of uniform agreement to the unwary.

These open or closed consensus meetings are doomed to commonsense and correct solutions when the selected or elected group members are incompetent, petty, narrow -agenda driven, timid, manipulative and so forth. When they agree not to disagree based on the above weaknesses especially ignorance of the situation, their decision will be wrong, costly, sometimes irreversible, arrogant, harmful as in war.

Let's go back to the cause and costs of the "War on Islamic global terrorism"/Iraq to illustrate.

Someone, groups must have advised the President in a consensus-mode as to united action by the incompetent what to do regarding the 9-11-01 attack on America. In hindsight remember there was almost no debate in Congress or in the nation at large as to what to do as our elected managers with the huge D.C. bureaucracies have a major flaw of consensus, the inability or nerve to think, if even alone and offer dissenting views.

Consensus-error is the norm not the exception. But group-think disallows the duty of responsibility for the decision without examination.

Most know the quote of PM Thatcher, "Consensus is the negation of leadership." Erica Carle, researcher, once noted, "Groups don't think. Individuals do."

Life and war are examples where reflection, thinking, examination matter for success and sense.

If you could identify the first consensus body that gave advice on a war without winning and with no strategy, you could put the blame on the present mess in the Middle East that could have been avoided and victory
assured. Simply saying the President doesn't like to read (think) but relies on "experts" is not the whole story.

The process of public decisionmaking without examination, dissent, by those with better minds and morals is important.

The Delpi/Consensus method has betrayed our Constitution, our local school systems, moral and political decisions in duped groups across our nation built on the faith in the individual with mental/moral excellence.

Show me the early consensus-policymakers for the President on the war decision, and I will show you the cause of at least one, present debacle.

Think for yourself...is still a better motto for decisionmaking, under God.

Let it go

By Wayne Harris

Sometimes you just have to let it go.

When you find yourself worrying about things beyond your control, let those things go. Let them go to God. Why waste time on worry?

Has someone told you that you are ugly, fat and not worth a dime? Have you allowed his or her estimation to control you? Stop and consider the source of the verbal abuse, and say, “God created me. If you think I am ugly, fat and not worth a dime, you need to confront my Creator.” Laugh, enjoy who God created you to be, and drive on. Refuse to let someone else’s point of view ruin your day.

If your friends turn against you, let them go. They are not your friends. Anyone who betrays you for any reason should never reign in telling you who you are.

Get Christ esteem and confound those that wish to control you with verbal harassment. I am who Christ says I am. I am not the person they wish to create for the purpose of controlling me.

I recently talked with a young lady whose ex-husband degrades her. She was suicidal at one point. He still controls her with his sharp tongue. I advised her to refuse to accept his point of view anymore. Invest in God’s point of view. What does God think of you? Where do stand with the Lord? If God is pleased with you, the rest of the universe can only provide background noise. Leave the noise back there and turn up the volume on God’s estimation of you.

You cannot control another person’s words or attitude. You can put your words and attitude under the blood of Jesus, though. You can allow God to fill your mouth with faith words. Refuse to abuse. Refuse to be abused.

Little people control others with their critical words. One of my goals in 2007 is to deflect harsh critical words with my shield of faith. Those fiery little darts of abuse do not belong anywhere near my heart. Thus, let us make something clear. I will not allow them to run anything in my life. My life is under the blood and protective leadership of the Lord Jesus.

A young friend told me that she has cut herself. “Cut yourself?” I asked. Yes, she has cut herself due to the derogatory onslaught from another’s hostile words.

One of the great benefits of being in Christ is the protective hedge He places around His followers. Hostile words may be painful, but they are not productive in the Christian’s life. The Word we have counters the words the abuser spews out. We see the abuser and pray, “Lord, help this poor soul to see the sin and repent of it.”

Walking through the valley of abuse is easier when we have His rod and staff to comfort us. The young lady with the abusive ex-husband needs to surrender everything to Jesus Christ. Surrender is the major step to victory.

Surrender to win? Yes! Once we surrender all to Jesus, Jesus takes our part. We no longer face the abuse alone. The one inside of me is now greater than the abuser.

People say things. If you let them they will steal away your joy. Let it go. Things that are painful and difficult to understand can send you into a deep abyss of depression. Let the Lord be your shield and fortress. Let the painful stuff go to Him. Do not receive any of it into your spirit. You do not need it.

Have you helped others only to have them spit in your face? Remember, they spat on the King of kings. If Jesus carried out His mission after being spat upon, do you think you will be exempt in this sinfully dark world?

I plan to die to self daily in 2007. I plan to ask Jesus to live in and through me. As the devil strikes, my goal is to block him with my shield of faith and wound him severely with my sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.

I cannot handle it. Jesus can!

Drunken Killers Behind the Wheel

By Keith Humphrey

Early this past Christmas morning, as I was driving west toward Newberg on the way to take my children to grandmother’s house, I came across a smoking twisted car-shaped hulk of metal that appeared to have spun out of control only a minute earlier. I pulled over and went up to the vehicle to check for survivors, and a drunk Mexican came out and staggered around.
With slurred speech and broken English, he tried to tell me that he was fine, the air-bag had saved him, and that there was no need to call anyone for help. As I noticed that another driver had pulled over and was calling for help, I went on my way. When I came back half-an-hour later to check the scene, the road was blocked off, and it was swarming with emergency workers. They had brought in a life-flight helicopter and several other emergency vehicles. I asked the flagman if there had been any response from law enforcement, and he said that there were few people available on account of the fact that it was Christmas Day.

"...It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings."
