Explicitly Christian Politics in Illinois:
An interview with Dan Sheridan of Cross and Throne Ministries

AW (Angela Wittman, ed.): Dear Dan, please tell us a little about your family and background.

DS (Daniel Sheridan): I was born in Chicago Illinois on My 4th 1970. I was raised in an Irish Catholic family. I came to Christ on June 21, 1981 through the ministry of a friend. I spent the next 9 years with a lot of zeal for the Lord, but with very little knowledge.

I met my wife Rebecca when I was 18, we were married in 1990. After the birth of our first son, Timothy Daniel, I developed a hunger to study the Holy Scriptures since I was getting nothing from local churches. I became a carnivorous reader of the Bible, and many books on Biblical subjects. My wife and I have three children: Timothy, Caleb and Anna. My wife is a gem and my children are my joy.

I was a Pastor for 6 years.

AW: Please tell us about the ministry “Cross and Throne.”

DS: Cross and Throne is a Bible Teaching ministry. We are currently broadcasting on WYLL AM1160 in Northeastern Illinois. This runs Monday-Friday from 9 – 9:30 PM. The purpose is to teach through the Scriptures verse-by-verse and encourage Christians to read the Bible cover to cover on their own at least once a year. I record these broadcasts at my home and my son Timothy is my engineer.

This ministry started out by meeting in my home. We hold Bible studies in homes, and are currently working on a Conference called “The Christian History of the United States: From the Reformation to the Revolution.”
I also hold meetings teaching History, Government and the lives of various men from American History (Patrick Henry, George Washington and Stonewall Jackson) from a Biblical Worldview.

I also speak at various conferences and churches by invitation.

AW: How do you reconcile personal piety and involvement in politics?

DS: As for the phrase “personal piety,” I do not understand the term. What we are must come out in our sphere of life. Politics is simply the expression of your faith in society. I do not believe that Jesus Christ is merely a personal Savior, but He is Lord of all.

AW: Do you believe in explicitly Christian politics?

DS: For me, there is no other kind. I can never divorce Holy Scripture from politics because Jesus Christ is my Lord and has total authority over every sphere of life I occupy. Whatever sphere of life I choose to be autonomous from God, judgment must necessarily be the result. There is no such thing as secular and sacred, Jesus Christ owns it all, and all must be subdued to Him.

AW: Do you believe our laws in America should conform to God’s Law?

DS: Yes

AW: Do you believe there are biblical qualifications for Christians to follow when voting for and electing leaders?

DS: Yes. We must search for the men who possess the qualities that come from God: Wisdom and Virtue. The Wisdom to discern the good and the Virtue pursue the good.

AW: For those looking for an alternative to the two major party system, what do you recommend?

DS: First they go to their knees and pray for the Country as it is. Then seek to associate with men who have a sincere desire to restore America’s Christian Heritage. Most parties have embraced “conservatism.” But that has come to mean baptized humanism today. So, we must look for a party that begins with the premise that God governs in the affairs of men, and that His Son Jesus Christ is the ruler of the nations. Most importantly, and I can’t stress this point enough: WE MUST SEEK TO PRESENT THE TRUTH IN A SPIRIT THAT WILL NOT BRING SLANDER AGAINST THE TRUTH. Patience is the key.

I, personally, have chosen to join the American Heritage Party. It is the only party I know that understands the real problem. Most parties are trying to chop down an apple tree by cutting off the apples. The AHP recognizes that the tree needs to be pulled up by the roots. The AHP recognizes that in order to change our country, we need to start with the individual, and with families. Just changing a few laws will not work. There can be no self government, without constitutionalism, but there can be neither without a people who have faith in the living God.

AW: Please tell us about the event featuring Daniel Eby, the National Chairman of the American Heritage Party that you have planned for March 5th and how our readers can get more information.

DS: Cross and Throne Ministries is hosting this event. I have developed a personal friendship with Mr. Eby and have spent most of our time bragging about the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be in town so we took advantage and asked him to speak to us. His topic will be “Explicitly Christian Politics,” and it will be on March 5th at 7:30 PM. This is a wake-up call like no other. While the Boards of Elections in Chicago and Cook County successfully derailed our Protect Marriage Illinois petition drive last year, Illinois citizens have not surrender the battle for marriage to the tiny but vocal minority on the Left.
Even in the light of the recent disheartening elections, I do not believe there is enough support in the Illinois General Assembly to pass a bill legalizing homosexual so-called "marriage." Yet I concede that the challenges we face on the pro-marriage and pro-family front are great.Make no mistake; the battle lines have been clearly drawn. Maine Bill Bans "Ministers of the Gospel" from Approving Marriages

LD 779: “An Act To Remove Clergy as Signatories on Marriage Licenses”

A Portland, Maine State Representative has submitted legislation this session that would remove all of Maine’s “ordained or licensed minister(s) of the Gospel” from the state statute that currently allows them to solemnize marriages. If passed, Rep. Boyd Marley’s (D – Portland) bill would allow only judges, lawyers, and notaries public to validate marriages in Maine.

In an online news article by Victoria Wallack, Rep. Marley stated that he submitted the legislation at the request of a Congregational minister in his legislative district, Rev. Mark Rustin. Rev. Rustin has been leading the North Deering Congregational Church in Portland since 1987. He is an active Freemason and a racecar enthusiast.

Regarding his motivation for the request, Rev. Rustin stated, “Being agents of the state isn’t an appropriate place for (religious leaders) to be.” According to the news article Rustin states he has never done a homosexual marriage ceremony, but if his North Deering congregation wanted him to, he would bless the union of a homosexual couple.

"If, and when, a gay couple comes to me and says, ‘We want to be married,’ at that juncture I would go to my congregation and ask, ‘What say ye?’” Rev. Rustin was reported to say.

Rev. Paul Nielsen, who leads the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection (LCMS) in Waterville, disagrees. “I think that Rev. Rustin is at least a little bit confused about what his role in the marriage rite is from a civil perspective,” said Rev. Nielsen. “I’m not sure why the state would have any interest in disqualifying clergy as one of the qualified witnesses to a marriage.”

Pastor Nielsen explains, “Currently the state of Maine only asks the clergy to sign the wedding certificate as indication that the wedding actually took place. I don't think that clergy are acting as ‘agents for the state of Maine.’”

Dr. Philip Watkins, who advises the Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Maine at Augusta, agrees with Pastor Nielsen’s assessment. He calls this legislative bill “a waste of time” and notes that it is indicative of the increasing secularization of our culture.

MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME: The Kenosha/No-News reports today that a nearby rural school district that lost 3 school days of the 180 required in Wisconsin is making them up NOT by adding school days in the early-summer but by shortening recess/grade schools by several minutes over a period of time and social-time for children between entering the building and first classes. It didn't note shortening the teacher lunch periods or free periods instead.

2. IRS- The family that does their IRS forms together, stays together or divorce even earlier. A box of Kleenex (for tears) is beside the forms
and figures my wife is weeping over as days go on and on to figure out the new/simplified tax forms.

3. ERIN GO BRAUGH! Finally only 25 days until St. Patrick's Day with a bit of a respite from government folly and funds and fighting.

4. BULLETS- I assume the treason party/Democrats will be refusing to authorize the payment/use of bullets to fight the wars on terrorism as our soldiers die. Who would have ever thought you would see the day when a resolution would be passed by Americans in Congress to call for surrender, now, while we are winning and just need an adjustment of leadership without the US State Dept, UN, left media, treason party/Dems manipulating our soldiers for political gain for a Hillary betrayal in 2008!

5. NCLB- The unconstitutional No Child Left Behind bill comes up to be considered for another 5 years or its demise as I type. The fear is not only will it be passed with Clinton/T. Kennedy/GWB signing it with frolicking but that it will be padded with even more national requirements putting us on the road to legal socialist education/centralized planning. More sickening is that many Rinos helped craft the repugnant. original bill and are still morphing with the socialist Democrats on this stealth ed plan. Remember, few even are aware of this as the children will be used for votes in Nov. 2008, not now.

Note- US Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) was elected to Congress in the 2006 election and is an articulate opponent of NCLB and federal control of education.

6. NO-GOD ZONES- Officially these are now all government sites that cell their way into the private sector: schools, courthouses, municipal buildings, colleges, state Capitols and so forth. I believe you can still think Christian inward thoughts on public sidewalks and parks undetected.

7. FAST/FREE TRADE -EXECUTIVE ACTS- GWB carries out this extra-constituional activity like his unconstiutional signing STATEMENTS on bills -which call for his own decisions without Congressional approval on trade agreements. This should be stopped.

8. US SENATE TREASON VOTE TODAY- This body will decide whether to support the war on terror today after they refused to debate this war and gave their consent earlier. Now, they (Senate) wants to give the Islamic, global, terrorists a propaganda victory demoralizing those who actually care, defend our Republic, the troops, not the traitors in DC.

Ratings have skyrocketed over Anna Nicole Smith’s death. Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband has joined the throng declaring fatherhood of her baby. Hugh Hefner has turned to prayer. The Bahamas have a political shakeup going on.

The more I read about the former Playboy model the more I want to wash this dirt right out of my hair. Maybe that was what Britney Spears was doing when she shaved her head. Or, maybe she cut her hair to take attention away from who will get Anna Nicole Smith’s dead body.

Madonna, Britney, Paris and a host of others are probably frustrated by the Smith media frenzy. They obviously love having the cameras on them. Well, relax ladies. Anna has the stage for awhile longer.

Associated Press ran a story today that should give folk something to think about. “Smith joins ranks of Playmates dead before 50” is an article that shows how this wages of sin thing works. Anna Nicole Smith has joined the ranks of such beauties as Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Dorothy Stratten and others. Monroe, Smith’s idol, died at 36 in 1962 from an overdose of pills. Mansfield was 34 when she was decapitated in a car accident in 1967. Dorothy Stratten was 20 when her husband murdered her. She had just been chosen Playmate of the Year in 1980.

Eve Meyer, 1955 Playmate, died when two airliners collided on takeoff in the Canary Islands in 1977.
She was 46. Ellen Louise Maligo, known in Playboy as “Star Stowe” was murdered at the age of 40 in Coral Springs in 1997. The list goes on. Tonya Crews, Carol Willis, and Claudia Jennings (Playmate of the Year, 1970) died in car accidents. They were still in their 20s.

Another drug overdose Playmate was Willy Rey. She overdosed in 1973. Elisa Bridges, 28, died in 2002 of what the coroner’s report called an accidental drug overdose. And, then, along came Anna Nicole Smith.

Is there a Playmate curse?

I believe there is. In fact, I know there is. It is called the curse of sin. Anyone who has not placed his or her faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is under the curse. It is the curse that started in the Garden of Eden when two people disobeyed God and ate of the fruit on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The curse of sin made the way for perversion. Instead of walking around sinless the couple had to cover up. They had walked freely without clothing before rebelling against God’s command to leave the one tree alone. Being naked was no big deal. After having their eyes open to good and evil the couple ran to cover themselves from God.

Hugh Hefner makes a fortune by taking pictures of people without their clothes on. He markets lust. Adam and Eve had no lust before they sinned. They had a great life until the serpent tempted them to sin. Hefner uses his magazine to tempt people around the globe. He tempts people while exploiting young women. The curse came in. With it came distortions.

The purpose of a woman being the helpmate became distorted. The Playmate is a distortion of what God intended. Instead of being a good helpmate, Anna Nicole Smith became a Playmate. The lust of the world then helped fuel her popularity. She was a model, but of what?

The distortion continues into the 21st Century. Just as the Romans, our society is distorting the purpose of man and woman. With same sex marriage we are playing with something that is already burning many. Reality has been distorted. Unnatural affections, those that God never intended for humans, are becoming acceptable. Burning with lust, men are now marrying men. Distortion of purpose has propelled marriages of women with women.

The only way to escape having a distorted mind is to receive your thoughts from Jesus Christ. There is a spiritual battle to have power over your mind. The more distortion you accept, the more demented you become.

Living in sin’s distortion led Smith down a path that destroyed her. Ask Jesus to protect you from that path.

Letter to the Editor: BC for Deer instead of more hunting to thin population?


Iowa’s all-wise social engineers are expanding their birth control policies to include deer. Department of Natural Resources wildlife protection policies have allowed for an overabundance of deer. Iowa is considering a multi-million dollar program to “vaccinate” deer with a birth control vaccine. According to the Food and Drug Administration, the vaccine GonaCon "should be safe to eat".

The government has a solution for everything.

Unlike sheep lining up at Planned Parenthood for birth control, deer are less cooperative. They have to be hunted down by dart gun wielding animal lovers in helicopters.

The DNR released wolves into the wild to curb the deer overpopulation problem. Instead of feeding exclusively on deer, the stupid wolves kill cattle and sheep.

It costs anywhere from $300 to $1000 to capture and vaccinate a deer. Two years later they require a booster shot.

It costs Iowa taxpayers nothing to relax hunting prohibitions. Deer meat is safer to eat without chemicals injected into them.
