Slavery, Nazism...Abortion? Is There Really Any Difference?

I read something the other day and it bothered me.

I read a discussion between two people talking about a group of people whom one of them believed to be non-persons, and the other believed they were persons deserving of rights.

The group of people were regarded as animals or worse. They had no rights. They were considered property. They were treated as possessions.

This group of people, by law were killed when the owner decided he or she had had enough with them, or they were considered an inconvenience. The law said that murdering these people was okay, and the law even said (between the lines, of course), that these people were doing society a favor by killing them.
